God Vittal meets Ramabai
Located on the busy Laxmi Road, the mandal has been popular since its inception in 1944. Known for its imaginative displays, the mandal has put up a display from the story of saint Tukaram in which god Vitthal comes down all the way from Pandharpur to Paithan to meet a devotee Ramabai Geer who is unable to go on the annual visit to Pandharpur due to illness. The display has 11 idols including that of Lord Vitthal. Entering its 63rd year, the mandal le by Sunil Kunjir, has also taken up the social cause of helping the flood-affected people in the Raigad region. In association with Shri Vasundhara Foundation, the mandal has donated blankets, home appliances, food and books in the flood-affected areas. This year the mandal has also added a 667 gram golden necklace to the ornaments worn by Ganesha’s idol. |
